Tech Pack Design Questions
What is a tech pack?
A tech pack (technical package) is a detailed document that tells a factory exactly how to make your garment. It includes technical flat sketches, measurements, fabric specifications, stitching details, trim callouts, labelling requirements and any other information needed to produce a sample or bulk order. Without a clear tech pack, factories must guess — leading to costly sampling mistakes and delays.
Why do I need a tech pack?
A tech pack is the single most important document you can have when working with a manufacturer. It eliminates ambiguity, reduces sampling rounds, protects your design, and gives factories everything they need to quote accurately. Brands without tech packs typically experience 2–4 extra sampling rounds and significantly higher costs.
What do I need to provide to get a tech pack made?
You'll need to provide your design concepts — this can be sketches, reference photos, Pinterest boards, or existing garments. The more detail the better, but we work with clients at all stages. We'll gather the rest through a brief call or our detailed questionnaire. You don't need to be a technical expert — that's what we're here for.
How long does a tech pack take?
Standard tech packs take 5–7 business days from brief confirmation. Rush turnaround of 2–3 days is available for an additional fee. Complex technical garments (outerwear, structured tailoring, technical sportswear) may take slightly longer. We'll always confirm your timeline before starting.
What file formats do you deliver?
Tech packs are delivered as PDF documents (the industry standard for factory communication) plus an editable Adobe Illustrator or Excel source file so you can make future updates yourself. Files are optimised for both screen and print.
How many revisions are included?
All Fabrickly tech pack packages include 2 free revision rounds. This covers any changes to measurements, fabrics, construction details or design updates. Additional revisions are available at a small hourly rate if needed beyond that.
Can you create tech packs for any garment type?
Yes. We create tech packs for a wide range of garments including t-shirts, hoodies, outerwear, dresses, trousers, activewear, swimwear, loungewear, denim, suiting, knitwear and accessories. If your garment is highly technical or unusual, contact us first and we'll confirm scope.
Will my tech pack work with overseas factories?
Absolutely. Our tech packs are specifically formatted for international factory communication and are used successfully with manufacturers in the UK, Portugal, Turkey, China, India and Bangladesh. All measurement specs follow industry-standard formats that factories worldwide recognise.
Clothing Manufacturing Questions
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
MOQs vary depending on the factory and garment type. As a general guide: UK factories typically start from 50–100 units per style, Portuguese factories from 100–300 units, and Asian factories from 300–500 units. We help match you to factories whose MOQs suit your current production scale.
Which countries do you source manufacturing from?
We have vetted factory relationships across the UK, Portugal, Turkey, China, India and Bangladesh. Each region has different strengths — UK for premium small-batch, Portugal for quality mid-range, Turkey for speed and flexibility, and Asia for volume pricing. We'll help you choose based on your priorities.
How do you vet factories?
All factories in our network have been personally vetted through site visits or trusted industry referrals. We assess quality standards, ethical compliance (SEDEX, BSCI audits), communication reliability and production capacity. We only introduce brands to factories we would use ourselves.
Can you manage the full production process?
Yes. Our manufacturing service includes factory sourcing, quote comparison, sample coordination, production monitoring and quality control. We act as your production partner so you can focus on design and sales while we manage the factory relationship.
Do you handle shipping and import duties?
We can advise on logistics and connect you with freight partners, but formal customs and duty arrangements remain the brand's responsibility. We'll ensure your production documents (packing lists, commercial invoices) are accurate and ready for customs clearance.
Sample Making Questions
How many samples do I need before bulk production?
Most brands need 2–3 sample rounds: a fit sample to check construction and sizing, a salesman sample in final fabrics for buyer presentations, and a pre-production sample to sign off before bulk. We help you plan the sampling roadmap that suits your timeline and budget.
How much do samples cost?
Sample costs vary by garment complexity, fabric sourcing and factory location. As a rough guide: UK samples range from £80–£300 per piece, overseas samples from £40–£150 plus courier fees. We'll provide a detailed quote before committing to any sampling work.
Can I get a sample made without a tech pack?
Technically yes, but we don't recommend it. Without a tech pack, factories work from rough instructions and their interpretation, leading to samples that miss the mark. It's almost always faster and cheaper to get a tech pack done first — it typically saves 1–2 extra sample rounds.
Pricing & Payment Questions
How much does a tech pack cost?
Tech pack pricing starts at £150 for a Starter pack (simple garments, 1 colourway), £249 for a Growth pack (most popular, complex garments, multiple colourways) and £199/garment for the Brand pack (5+ pieces). Pricing in EUR is also available for European clients. See our full pricing page for details.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfer (BACS), credit/debit card and PayPal. A 50% deposit is required to begin work, with the remainder due on delivery. For larger projects, we can discuss milestone-based payment schedules.
Do you offer refunds?
Once work has begun, deposits are non-refundable. However, we include 2 free revision rounds in all packages to ensure you're fully satisfied with the final tech pack. If there are quality concerns, we'll work to resolve them. Contact us before requesting any refund.
Can I get a discount for multiple garments?
Yes. Our Brand pack offers reduced per-garment pricing for 5+ tech packs ordered together. For larger collections or ongoing partnerships, contact us to discuss a custom rate.
